Datura stramonium
Description:
- Datura or the Devil’s thorn apple is an annual wild herb that flowers in summer and grows in better-watered valleys and in the mountains and locally known as "Al-benj البنج"
- The whole plant is highly toxic as it contains the known alkaloid, atropine and its analogs
Signs of toxicity:
- Dryness of mouth and other mucosal membranes
- Tachycardia
- Dilated eye pupil
- Hallucination
- In high doses, it might lead to death due to respiratory failure and cardiovascular collapse.
