Description:

  • Datura or the Devil’s thorn apple is an annual wild herb that flowers in summer and grows in better-watered valleys and in the mountains and locally known as "Al-benj البنج"
  • The whole plant is highly toxic as it contains the known alkaloid, atropine and its analogs

Signs of toxicity:

  • Dryness of mouth and other mucosal membranes
  • Tachycardia
  • Dilated eye pupil
  • Hallucination
  • In high doses, it might lead to death due to respiratory failure and cardiovascular collapse.
