Description:

• Abrus or the wild liquorice is a perennial shrub that produces a colorful beautiful seeds and locally known as "Hab ul-Aroos حب العروس " 

• Seeds contain a toxic compound known as “abrin” which is fatal in a dose as low as 3 mg.

Signs of toxicity include:

• Dryness of mouth and mucosa and gastroenteritis with vomiting and diarrhea.

• At later stages, drowsiness, disorientation, weakness and convulsion can occur

• Contact with eyes can cause blindness.
