Seeds contain a toxic compound known as “abrin” which is fatal in a dose as low as 3 mg.
Signs of toxicity include:

Dryness of mouth and mucosa and gastroenteritis with vomiting and diarrhea.

At later stages, drowsiness, disorientation, weakness and convulsion can occur

Contact with eyes can cause blindness.
